Access to the Abbaye Neumünster

The Abbaye de Neumünster is an ancient Benedictine monastery from the seventeenth century.

This historic complex of buildings in the picturesque Alzette-valley has been cautiously restored over 10 years before it reopened in 2004 as a Cultural Exchange Center:
the  "Centre Culturel de Rencontre Abbaye de Neumünster” (CCRN).

Since then it has been a place for conferences, business meetings and a variety of cultural happenings, like movie screenings, cabaret and open air concerts.

The Abbaye is located in the quarter “Grund” (ground). As its name already indicates, it is one of the three lower city quarters lying in the valleys of the rivers Alzette and Petrusse. These quarters are connected with the upper city quarters by small access roads, stairways and an elevator. The upper city lies on a rock plateau which coins the townscape with its leftovers of mediaeval fortresses until today. These and some old town city parts are protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.

The Abbaye de Neumünster is part of the historic town circuit „Wenzelweg“ which leads you through 1000 years of Luxembourgian history in 100 minutes. In case of nice weather, you should not miss the chance to take this route for walking.
